Ladies and Gentlemen:
As of this date total crime in the district is down 8% as opposed to this time last year. Property crime is down 6% at this time as opposed to last year. However, we have some concerns that we need you to help us with. Below you will see a report from my burglary crew that needs immediate attention from us and you. Read the below message and you will see we are fighting the thugs and thieves and locking them up however I know we can be more effective. It will be a big help if we start locking our garages. I know some of us have not locked our garages in years but we have to now, times have changed for us and people living throughout the metro area (city and county). Also I need you to pay attention to the vacant homes on your block and call 911 if you see anyone going into them. Remember people are posing as workers wearing hard hats and work vests in order to steal copper and other items from vacant homes. The officers of district 2 are going to step up our efforts at night by doing more building checks at our businesses in the district and the vacant homes. Burglary is the only crime that is up right now, we are 28% lower in person crime, which includes a drop in robbery thus far 41%. We are 33% lower in car thefts, 4% lower in larcenies (shop lifting and car break-ins) and the officer’s self-initiated activity is up, which is good. Remember to keep “Parking Smart” by not leaving personal items in plain view in your cars for the thieves to steal. You are doing a good job with dialing 911, keep it up! Together we will win; the thugs were very busy in April as you will see below. We can not afford to let them have another April!
Respectfully,
Captain Ronnie Robinson
Commander District 2
During the month of April, 50 burglaries were reported in District Two. Of these burglaries, 24% were (unlocked) garage burglaries, 18% were vacant houses, 14% were overnight business burglaries, 6% were common basements of large apartment buildings, and 6 % were unfounded. During the month, there were 6 subjects arrested for burglaries, 1 suspect arrested for receiving stolen property-taken in a burglary, 3 suspects placed wanted for burglaries and 1 placed wanted for receiving stolen property. An additional 2 burglary suspects were identified, with the investigations ongoing. Between the Second District Burglary Squad and the Second District Detective Bureau, 13 burglaries have been cleared by arrest during the month of April (warrants were Issued in all of these cases).
Regarding several burglaries committed in the neighborhoods off of S. Skinker & Oakland in the northern portion of the District near Forest Park, we are working to identify a middle aged black male and (3) younger white males occupying a lighter blue 80s model conversion van with darker blue horizontal stripes and a rear ladder. They were observed leaving the scene of one of the burglaries, carrying the victim’s television. We have requested red light camera footage from the Traffic Division around the time of the burglary, in an effort to identify the van and/or its occupants. Their arrest should clear (5) burglaries, we believe they are responsible for.
